Born
and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, Jermaine Watkins was inspired
to write early in his youth, in connection with his then developing
passion for reading. As a teenager, he discovered the strong talents
of popular best-selling novelists in his high school library. However,
he gradually discovered another, depressing reality: in comparison
to novels written by white authors, there were no positive reflections
of his own beloved black culture. For over a decade, he has worked
diligently to develop a unique tone of writing that will embrace
all nationalities, as a true reflection of today’s world. He has
worked for a popular Connecticut newspaper, The
Journal Inquirer. He still resides in
Connecticut, where he is presently working on his second novel.
